We offer a panoramic tour starting in the city centre and ending at Vomero known as the "postcard of Naples". On the way to Vomero we'll see Piazza Municipio, Palazzo Reale, Galleria Umberto, Teatro San Carlo, Piazza del Plebiscito.

Paestum
|
Founded by the Greeks, originally known as Poseidonia, it's among the most important archaeological sites in Italy, with its standing remains of three major Doric temples. The biggest Temple is the Temple of Neptune, built in 450 B.C., who represents a perfect example of Doric architecture.
Then there is the Italic Temple, built in about 80 B.C., dedicated to Jupiter, Juno and Minerva. The third one, attributed to Cerere, built along the Sacred route, was dedicated to Athena. Unmissable is the Temple of the God Hera, surrounded by a facade with 50 Doric columns, a grand altar and a sacrificial well. Paestum is also renowned for its Archaeological Museum, the Tomb of the Diver (the only example of Greek painting with figured scenes to survive in its entirety) and for the metope fittili of the Heraion of foce Sele.

Pompei and Vesuvius
|
Pompei was a city over 64 hectares with a population of approximately 20.000. Important commercial hub, its port was in competition with all the Greek cities of the coast.
It was buried by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD. A trip to the ruins is unmissable.
Don't lose the chance for a visit to Vesuvius. Vehicles go as far as 1000 mt. After this, by foot, accompanied by guide, you'll reach the mouth of the crater. When the sky is clear, the effort of the climb is compensated by the beauty of the amazing panorama before your eyes. You can see: the Partenope Islands, Campi Flegrei, Capo Miseno and all the Sorrento Coast. On your return, there'll be a short stop in Torre del Greco to visit a factory producing cameo and coral jewellery.

Grotto of Pertosa / Padula
|
The Grotto of Pertosa or "the Angel" is over 35 millions years old. For the first pool, filled by the water of the underground river Negro, you'll travel on a chiatta (a local flat-bottomed boat) which will bring you as far as the image of the Archangel Michael. From here, the grotto splits in 3. The area open to the public, the northern path, you'll see fantastic stalactites e stalagmites which over time have taken various forms.
From here we go to Padula and to the Monastery (Certosa) of San Lorenzo, founded in 1206, by Tommaso Sanseverino, Count of Marsico e Patron of Vallo di Diano. The monastery is divided in two areas, the lower house and the upper house. In the first house you'll find the working areas (storage, stalls, laundry room etc), the second house is the residence of the monks.

Montecassino

Situated at an altitude of 516 metres, the abbey in Cassino was founded by Saint Benedict around 529 AD. Here he put into practice the Benedictine rule "ora et labora", based on which the monks were required to sing to God , study and do manual labour.
The Abbey was destroyed and rebuilt 4 times over the course of the centuries, firstly by the Longobardi (581 A.D.), by the Saracens (883 A.D.), due to an earthquake (1349 A.D.) and finally during World War II (1944). As well as the beautiful religious buildings, and the Church of Saint Benedict, the Museum has a display of many treasures of sacred art.

Abbey of the Holy Trinity (Badia Benedettina) in Cava de' Tirreni

The Abbey of the Holy Trinity (Badia Benedettina) was founded by Saint Alferio Pappacarbone, a nobleman from Salerno who descended from Longobards from the region of Cluny, who in 1011 A.D. decided to live the life of hermit in the large cave Arsiccia.
His holiness attracted many disciples which forced them to build a little monastery, the origin of today's modern Abbey.
He died at a very old age on the 12th of April 1050. Over the centuries of it's history the Abbey has accumulated many works of art from different époques, amongst which we can find: buildings, frescos, mosaics, sarcophagi, sculptures, paintings, illuminated manuscript.
Its library holds a collection of many scrolls, still to be translated, discovered during the excavation of Pompei.
